Source of Life Children Foundation states that all children, irrespective of their conditions or vulnerabilities have a right to survive and thrive. The organization works hard to satisfy this need by promoting health initiatives that improve the condition of children and the most vulnerable people in rural communities. Some of the health-related areas that the Organisation intends to direct its resources for the benefit of children and the most vulnerable people include building hospital facilities, meeting the nutrition needs, supporting early childhood development, immunization, promoting hygiene and sanitation, and support for Malaria, tuberculosis and other diseases. With these survival planning initiatives, Source of Life Children Foundation aims to be on the front foot in ensuring that people in rural communities have the best health possible across the continent of Africa.
Key Areas of Focus:
Health and Nutrition:
- Maternal and Child Health: Source of Life Children Foundation prioritizes improving the health and nutrition of mothers and children, recognizing the critical importance of early childhood development and nutrition for long-term health outcomes.
- Addressing Malnutrition: We work to combat malnutrition through programs like “Soya porridge for healthy children,” which promotes the production and consumption of nutritious foods.
- Community Health: We empower communities to take ownership of their health by providing education on health and hygiene, training, and resources to community health resource persons.
- Disease Prevention and Management: Source of Life Children Foundation focuses on preventing and managing common childhood illnesses, including diarrhea, acute respiratory infections, and malaria.
- Clean Water and Sanitation: Source of Life Children work to improve access to clean water and sanitation, which are essential for preventing waterborne diseases and promoting hygiene.
Health: Water gives way to improved healthcare
For nearly a 5 decade, Wirima Village in Traditional Authority Gumba in Mchinji Malawi struggled without running water, hindering sanitation and care — especially for expectant mothers. The village broke away 53 years ago from a bigger village some 5 kilometers away. Since the establishment of the village, they have never had a source of clean water. They rely on a locally dug unclean well. In summer, they supplement this water whose water table goes very low with water from some wetland locally called dambo, a highly unsanitary water source which they share with livestock. In response to Water sanitation and hygiene (WASH) according to Mchinji Strategic Economic Planning Malawi, Source of Life Children Foundation Malawi, through funding from Source of Life Children Foundation Australia, Headquarters Office, has mechanized water supply systems. The installation of mechanized water supply systems by Source of Life Children Foundation in Malawi has facilitated access to water. With water, hygiene has improved, and the small health staff can better serve their community.
We also visited the town of Likasi, in Haut-Katanga State in the Democratic Republic of Congo, and identified the necessity of assisting them with clean, potable water to prevent health risks such as cholera, bilharzia and other waterborne diseases especially among children, who are vulnerable and easily susceptible to contracting them. The community had not had access to safe drinking water for over 45 years. With the clean water introduced to this community, even surroundings residents are benefiting.

We focus on:
Maternal, newborn and child survival: Source of Life Children Foundation works to end preventable maternal, newborn and child deaths and stillbirths by scaling up essential maternal and newborn care, sustaining immunization programmes, and supporting preventive, promotive and curative services for pneumonia, diarrhoea, malaria and other child health conditions.
Child and adolescent health and well-being: We help children and adolescents build a solid foundation for adulthood by strengthening national health plans and age-specific services. Source of Life Children Foundation works with local communities to combat non-communicable diseases, improve mental health, prevent injuries and support children with developmental delays and disabilities.
Strengthening health systems: Source of Life Children Foundation supports primary health care, especially at the local community level, to help strengthen integrated services for children, adolescents and women of reproductive age – focusing on health, nutrition, early childhood development, Malaria and WASH (water, sanitation and hygiene).
