Disasters, whether natural or man-made, often lead to food insecurity. Approximately 821 million people, or just over one in nine, live in hunger. Poor nutrition is an underlying cause of nearly 2.4 million childhood deaths each year. Food assistance saves lives by addressing the most severe and immediate forms of food insecurity, while improving livelihoods, health, education, and enabling communities to become self-reliant.
Good nutrition is the basis for child survival and development.
Good nutrition is essential for child survival and development. But today, many children do not receive the nutrients they need to survive and thrive. This is especially the case for the most vulnerable children: the youngest, the poorest, and those caught up in humanitarian crises in the Democratic Republic of Congo. At least one in three children under the age of 5 suffers from malnutrition in its most visible forms: undernutrition or overweight.

Together, we can end hunger
There is still much to be done. Source of Life for Children Foundation believes that a world free from hunger is possible. We advocate for policy changes at all levels that contribute to improving the food and nutrition security for the world’s most vulnerable children, families, and communities. Meeting immediate food needs allows families to invest in improving the productivity of their farms, the quality of their meals, and access to better education, care, and protection for their children.
